Public Group active 1 year, 1 month agoThr.fm is Malaysia’s first private commercial radio station as an alternative to RTM radio stations in 1994. Formerly known as Time Highway Radio or THR, the station aimed for Malaysian English speaking audience. As suggested by the station’s name, THR is targeted to road and highway users besides providing them an entertainment outlet for the long-drive. So listeners can drive through their journey with THR.First launched in the year of 1994, August 31st, the station was based in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur. The transmission began its covering in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang.
Officially operated in Malay and English Language, THR cast the best DJs in the Malaysia’s broadcasting industry. The station moved its headquarters to Wisma TIME in 1996. In 1995, THR was popular as the management expanded their coverage area to Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Johore. Broadcast also reached Singapore and radio stations in Singapore felt threatened as listeners switched to THR. THR was the best local English Language station until the ratings dropped drastically as AMP launched HITZ FM in 1997.
As it was a stiff competition between radio stations under AMP management and THR, the station introduces Chinese time slots making it a trilingual radio station. With more and more new radio stations emerging in the years to come, THR cancelled English and Chinese slots. THR Raaga, Tamil broadcast was introduced later. The management has changed hands to AMP Radio Networks in 2005. AMP retained the Malay and Tamil broadcast format for the listeners. The East Coast Transmitters carry ‘THR Gegar’ which is conducted in Malay Language. ‘Permata Pantai Timur’ is the shout out for ‘THR Gegar’.
The breakfast show starts as early as 5.30 am, hosted by Nasa and Sue. Every Sundays to Mondays, bubbly Nasa and elegant Sue will serve the listeners with different genre of songs. And as the show make way for Nazz at 10 am, he will keep the listeners updated with traffic reports and latest breaking news. Coming up next is hilarious Andy’s show from 4 pm till 8 pm. Not the least is the usual traffic reports for its targeted road and highway users.
Listeners can get all sorts of funny stories from Andy as he babble for the 4 hour show.Chill out from 8 pm to midnight with stunning and sweet Gina (as described on the THR’s website). From 10 am till noon on Saturdays, the station will air ‘Carta Hits Gegar’ consists of the famous latest hits. Listeners can keep themselves up-to-date as the show features the current hits. On 9 till 10 pm, hilarious Andy is back to share the latest Hindi songs with the listeners in ‘Carta Hindi’.
THR also launched its own website to attract more listeners. The contents of the website are the same as other stations. Complete with the station’s promotions and events, weather reports, traffic updates and deejays blogs. While the West Coast Transmitters carry THR Raaga, the show features Tamil programmes. Designed to have similar content with THR Gegar. And the frequency varies from regions.
*Sorry to say but not much of a choice for the listeners. A dull and boring content that most probably would not attract listeners and might even cause the ratings to drop. The contents are pretty much the same everyday. Some deejays even stutter during the show. Need to furnish the show with different content to attract listeners as well as to retain its loyal listeners.
